Bucks County man charged with stealing $638K in SEPTA parts

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Authorities have arrested a Bucks County man in connection to multiple thefts of SEPTA train parts valued at more than $638,000.

28-year-old Kyle Allen of Langhorne, Pa. is charged with felony Burglary, Dealing in Proceeds of Illegal Activities, Criminal Trespass, Theft by Unlawful Taking and Receiving Stolen Property.

Authorities say Allen was employed at SEPTA at the time of the crimes.

Officials say on the morning of May 11, Plymouth Township police responded to a reported burglary at the SEPTA Frontier Division facility on Alan Wood Road.

The SEPTA manager was able to identify the man.

Police say since January 2015, Allen stole more than 500 batteries, approximately 260 catalytic converters, 100 spools of wire, parts specific to the SEPTA El train, and other electrical components. They say he then sold them for scrap at a fraction of their value.

The thefts occurred at six different SEPTA locations: Frontier Division in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County, 69th Street Transportation Center and Victory Depot in Upper Darby, Delaware County, and Midvale Depot, Comly Depot, and Callowhill Deport in Philadelphia.

Allen was arraigned Thursday and bail was set at $75,000.

He was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
