Shelter Me: Beagle Rescue League

A failed foster parent has a happy ending after connecting with the animal rescue group that specializes in the care of Beagles.

Nancy Rankin adopted Brandy and Lucky in May 2012.

She said, "They're great dogs and just they make my day."

Nancy is what's known in rescue circles as a failed foster parent.

"I fostered for a couple months and then I realized that I didn't want to let them go. I had to keep them," said Nancy.

Brandy and Lucky had come to the Beagle Rescue League for the Lab to Leash program.

"We accept dogs who have been retired from biomedical research. We work with about 20 different research facilities at this point, bringing in dogs from as young as 8 weeks to as old as about 9-years-old," said Carolyn.

The pair have been with Nancy for 3 years now and she couldn't be happier.

"If it wasn't for the people at the rescue and them bringing these guys into my life, I don't know what I would've done," said Nancy.

The Beagle Rescue League has been in operation since 2010 and has managed to find homes for several Beagles.

Carolyn adds, "It's an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. We don't have a facility, so we utilize volunteer foster homes."
