A man is hospitalized after being shot in the back during a robbery attempt in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia.

TIOGA-NICETOWN (WPVI) -- A man is hospitalized after being shot in the back during a robbery attempt in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia.

It happened before 5 a.m. Monday on 17th Street between Erie and Pulaski Avenues.

Police tell Action News a man was riding his bicycle and stopped at a newsstand, when four men pulled up in a vehicle.

One armed suspect got out of the car and tried to rob the man, then shot him in the back.

The victim was able to get back on his bicycle and ride several blocks before he collapsed.

Officers arrived on the scene and took the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition.

The suspects all fled in that vehicle, last seen on Pulaski Avenue.

Police are working to develop a description of the vehicle.
