1 injured in Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a shooting that left one man injured in Wilmington.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Jefferson Street.

Upon arrival, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police rushed the shooting victim to Christiana Hospital. His condition is unknown.

While assisting the victim, police said a large crowd started throwing bricks and bottles at them.

Other agencies in New Castle County were called to assist police at the scene.

Police said while secondary agencies were trying to control the crowd, a man drew a knife on an officer in the 500 block of Jefferson Street.

He was taken into custody.

The incident is under investigation.
