A long overdue salute
State officials in New Jersey say its never too late to say thank you to our living veterans

LAWRENCE TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- State officials in New Jersey say its never too late to salute and say thank you to our living veterans, who fought in world war two.

That was the idea behind this medal ceremony, here in Trenton Tuesday morning.

17 World War 2 veterans from Mercer and Camden counties, were presented with New Jersey's highest military award, the distinguished service medal. The medal was originally issued back in 1858, but was re-authorized in 1988 by then governor Kane.

The ceremony was part of a state-wide, veterans outreach program.
