BOSTON (WPVI) -- A Craigslist "Missed Connections" ad from Boston posted by a war veteran is going viral.

The ad is heartfelt plea from a Vietnam war veteran in search a woman who became his own personal hero.

The vet writes he was so devastated at the destruction he left behind in Hanoi that he couldn't bear to live.

The letter starts: "I met you in the rain on the last day of 1972, the same day I resolved to kill myself."

He goes on to say that he met this woman, wearing a teal ball gown, under an overhang in the rain.

They went to a coffee shop, where he says they laughed as easily as they lamented.

When he came back from the bathroom she was gone and for 43 years, he's been looking for her.

He writes: "You breathed your spirit into my lungs one rainy afternoon, and you can't possibly imagine my gratitude."

Some are questioning if this is real, while others are sharing the story like crazy - hoping for a real reunion with the almanac showing that indeed it did rain that New Year's Eve in Boston.
