Local veteran receives Purple Heart
Local veteran receives Purple Heart. Brian Taff reports during Action News at 4 p.m. on December 27, 2017.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A local veteran who bears the scars of his heroism now proudly wears a different reminder.

The Action Cam was in West Chester Wednesday as Congressman Ryan Costello pinned the Purple Heart on Private First Class Justin Radbill.

The Army veteran was wounded when his patrol came under attack in Baghdad back in 2003.

Despite being struck by shrapnel and suffering significant injuries, PFC Radbill jumped into action, taking aim at the enemy to save his fellow soldiers.

Radbill stayed in a turret until every wounded soldier was attended to.

Though he earned the Purple Heart 14 years ago, he never formally received it until now.
