A group of Philadelphia police officers and local school children are showing their Philly pride

HUNTING PARK (WPVI) -- A group of Philadelphia police officers and local school children are building trust and lifelong relationships while learning new skills to show their Philly pride.

Action news was at Saint Veronica's Independence Mission School in Hunting Park Tuesday.

The Irish Pub Children's foundations "Police Youth Alliance" works with the schools to bring police officers and children in disadvantaged neighborhoods together.

Right now, these students are learning how to play in a drum line from police officer Derrick Suragh.

"I know you're dying to play, and that's fine. I remember those days too, alright. But we also have to be disciplined, ok? We do not play unless we are playing together."

The police youth alliance visits schools across the city and allows officers to teach all sorts of classes in art, reading, music, sports and more.
