SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Wells Fargo in South Philadelphia was jammed Friday night for the Philadelphia Sixers' season home opener.
By the looks of things, and the vibe from the fans, this is a special team.
And this is going to be the season that this team goes far, according to many fans.
The air was electric as the Philadelphia Sixers game began.
And the front office had t-shirts for everyone to announce great expectations: Welcome To The Moment.
Mike Murphy of Northeast Philadelphia says, "I think this is the year, I think we make the playoffs this year."
Brent Nolan of Southwest Philadelphia added, "The excitement is in the building. It's a great time now."
The drought for Sixers' fans has lasted a long time.
Action News asked Hakim Jackson of Camden, New Jersey when the last time he felt this good about the Sixers. "Since 2009 when A.I. came back," he said.
Curtis Gilliard of West Philadelphia says the difference this year for the Sixers is Joel Embiid. "Trust the process, he plays defense out of this world. He can keep up with anybody."
A few years ago, you had a hard time getting rid of Sixers' tickets, but now, the fans are coming out of the woodwork.
For Brandon Torres of North Philadelphia it was his first basketball game, and he picked a good one tonight.
David Levy of Center City said, "This place is packed, the lines are out the door and everyone's really excited. It's the environment going on right now about the Sixers, it's amazing in the city."
Carol and George Kusnir of Pennsauken, New Jersey agree, "Hopefully we will have a good season this year." said Carol.
When asked what she meant by hopefully? She said, "Well, well, injuries, we hope not."
Kusnir's husband George says, "We are going all the way baby, this year."
The Eagles are hot, the flyers are hot and now the Philadelphia Sixers are hot.
Could this be our year Philadelphia?
