PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Michel Sproles is making it her mission to help those around her.
She and her husband, Eagles running back Darren Sproles, tell Action News they want to make a positive difference in Philadelphia, where they work and live.
In 2012, the husband and wife created the Sproles Empowered Youth Foundation.
In three years, they have helped young people and families across the country from San Diego to New Orleans and in Darren Sproles' home state of Kansas.
The foundation has football camps for the boys and fitness classes for the girls, but their work goes beyond that teaching the kids important life skills like college prep, resume building, applying for a job and managing money.
"I think giving back is extremely important," said Michel Sproles. "So to be able to give back and speak to these kids and really get to know them and try to encourage them is really important to both Darren and I."
Darren Sproles is known for his speedy explosive moves on the field, but now the couple wants the Delaware Valley to know about their work off the field.
They're kicking off their efforts with a benefit called "Drinks and Dialogue." The event is Monday, Dec. 14, at Fine Palate, a gourmet restaurant in Center City.
"We just want people to come out, you know, and network, have a good time and really get to know these guys in a more intimate setting," said Michel Sproles.
Action News' own Sharrie Williams will serve as the MC of the event.
Some of the items auctioned off at the event include a trip to Paris, Pro Bowl tickets, Super Bowl tickets and jerseys signed by the players.
Funds from the event will go toward helping youth in the area.
