The mood inside Chickie's and Pete's was festive after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie laid the hammer and fired head coach Chip Kelly.

"I was shocked, stunned, but I'm very excited," said Bob Helfer of Cheltenhamp Township.

"It's time. It was time. He needed to go," said Heather Reed of South Philadelphia.

"Lurie is a smart guy and he wants a winner so he's not going to keep the guys that aren't producing for him," said Greg Di Bruno of South Philadelphia.

How quickly the shine on Kelly's football acumen has dulled. He arrived in Philadelphia with his breakneck offense and fans loved him. "In Chip We Trust" was the mantra.

"I think every Philadelphia fan was one of the guys that was "In Chip We Trust" because we wanted to see what he had to bring to the table and he didn't have much to bring to the table, and he needs to go back to college football," said Ryan Durgun of Tinicum, Pennsylvania.

But listen to fans across the Delaware Valley and the message is clear: Yes, he lost the trust and respect of many of his players, but more than anything he lost games.

"I think he rubbed a lot of people wrong in this city and the whole Delaware Valley," said Jim Higgins of Washington Township.

"I thought he was gonna do something big, but I never expected them to fall flat the way they did with him," said Di Bruno.
