The Miami Marlins acquired relief pitcher Severino Gonzalez from the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations, it was announced Tuesday.

Gonzalez, 24, posted a 5.60 ERA in 35 1/3 innings out of the bullpen last season. He made seven starts as a rookie in 2015, going 3-3 with a 7.92 ERA in 30 2/3 innings. Philadelphia designated him for assignment last week following the Michael Saunders signing.

The right-hander from Panama, who has 62 career strikeouts and 14 walks, will compete for a spot in a Miami bullpen that could include newcomers Jeff Locke, Brad Ziegler and Junichi Tazawa.

Marlins' relievers pitched to a 3.63 ERA last season, which was 14th in the majors.
