NJ high school QB died from internal bleeding

WASHINGTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities say massive internal bleeding caused by a lacerated spleen caused the death of a New Jersey high school star quarterback who died after suffering an injury on the playing field.

The determination was made by the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office, which conducted the autopsy on Evan Murray.

It also found Murray's spleen was "abnormally enlarged," making it more susceptible to injury.

Officials say there was no evidence of head trauma or heart disease. The death has been ruled an accident.

The Warren Hills Regional High School player had walked off the field with the help of some teammates Friday night after taking a hit in the backfield.

A short time later, the 17-year-old three-sport athlete collapsed on the sidelines and died at a hospital.
