Sixers open new training facility in Camden, N.J.

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- With the cut of a ribbon, the Philadelphia 76ers opened the doors to their new training complex in Camden, New Jersey on Friday.

"Today is the culmination of years of research, design and construction to develop a training complex that stands as the best we think in all of professional sports," said 76ers Managing General Partner Josh Harris.

Action News got a tour of the impressive 125,000-square-foot training complex, which will be the largest in the NBA.

The Sixers say the new building is designed to foster team-building, unity, communication, innovation and the spirit of competition.

"We are so proud, so proud that the 76ers can now call Camden home and say that they, too, played a huge part in the rebirth of Camden, New Jersey," said Mayor Dana Redd. "We are also very thankful and appreciative as the 76ers have full embraced the Camden community."

The facility includes two NBA-regulation-sized basketball courts, a 2800-square-foot player locker room, and state-of-the-art performance, wellness, recovery and hydrotherapy rooms.

"It is a fantastic area to develop, to put in time, and work to have this resource available to our professional young players, young being huge key word, it is just a fantastic day for the organization," said coach Brett Brown.

It will be a 24-7 destination for NBA elite, with loads of amenities that include a player restaurant and much more.

"Together we will rise," said N.J. Congressman Donald Norcross. "And I can't wait for the time they bring home that first championship trophy as part of Camden. Welcome to Camden city. Welcome to southern New Jersey. Congratulations!"

This is not only an exciting time for the team, but for the city of Camden.

The 76ers setting up shop in the area is the beginning of big changes to Camden's waterfront. A billion dollar complex of office space, apartments, stores and hotels is soon to follow.
