DREXEL HILL, Pa. (WPVI) -- Tall, mature trees are part of what makes the Drexel Hill neighborhood so beautiful. But with so many heavy storms recently, they're also part of a potential danger.

"It's an old tree," said Bob Klimas while looking at a large tree that had just fallen onto the roof of a home in the 1200 block of Drexel Avenue. "And it's an old neighborhood. So there's high potential for this to happen."

The tree fell at around 1 a.m. Friday. The tree crashed into one side of a home divided into four units.

A witness says that a man and a child made it out safely.

Severe weather brings down trees, power lines across region as reported by Annie McCormick during Action News at 11 on May 29, 2019.

"People look at something like that and they say, 'thank God it wasn't me,'" said Tim Folkomer as he went to his dentist's office across the street. "But those poor people, they are in a situation now. Do they have insurance?"

Asplundh Tree Removal workers were at the house by 5:30 a.m. They began the process of removing the tree trunk and branches that crashed into powerlines behind the home. PECO has to cut power to the home and several nearby businesses so that tree crews could work.

"We had to make sure the tension wasn't there (on the power lines). Make it safe for the crews," said Bruce Wentworth with Asplundh Tree Removal.

He noted that the top of the tree was in good shape but the bottom wasn't.

"It uprooted," he said. "It had bad roots to it."

Chris Ryder owns his own landscaping company. He came out to survey the damage for himself, noting that the recent stormy weather has kept him and a lot of his colleagues very busy.

"All the tree guys are busy," he said.
