Suspect crashes after carjacking, armed robbery, police chase through Pa., NJ
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A suspect who carjacked a SEPTA worker in Spring Garden and then committed an armed robbery in South Jersey led Philadelphia police on a chase Sunday afternoon, authorities say.
New Jersey State Police identify the suspect as Marquan Pitts.
Police closed in on Pitts just before 2 p.m. at 8th and Snyder streets in South Philadelphia.
The suspect crashed the stolen 2016 Dodge Challenger into another vehicle on the crowded street.
SEPTA police confirm the man behind the wheel carjacked an off-duty employee at 4th and Spring Garden around 4 a.m.
The victim's father tells Action News his son was "visibly shaken" and the family was "scared, shocked, and in awe" of their son's close brush with death.
Six hours later and 39 miles away, Pitts was filling up the stolen car at the Farley Service Plaza in South Jersey. When asked for payment, he pulled out a stolen gun and said he was a cop.
Another four hours later, off and on pursuits of the vehicle came to an end in South Philadelphia.
Pitts was taken into custody after 350 miles and 10 hours of lawlessness. He faces an array of charges.
