CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Chester, Pa. remain on the hunt for multiple gunmen after a violent weekend.

Chester police officials walked through the Bennett public housing development on Monday in the wake of a quadruple shooting there.

It was one of five separate cases over the weekend in the city of 40,000, and police believe they are all connected.

"Our understanding is that there was a fight of some nature between several individuals and somebody got hurt and this is retaliation," said Commissioner Otis Blair.

A total of eight people were wounded in five shootings that were spread out all over town, where as many as eight separate neighborhood gangs are known to operate.

Police say they clash in a virtual round-robin fashion over disputes involving women, drugs, and disrespect.

No one died during this weekend's violence.

The recent spate of shootings are believed to have stemmed from a series of brawls at Chester High School's homecoming after-parties.
