Arrest made in armed robberies of Temple students

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the armed robberies of Temple University students.

Twenty-six-year-old Robert Sherrill has been charged with robbery, carjacking and related offenses.

Police are still looking for Sherill's alleged partner, 19-year-old Anthony Graves.

The first incident occurred on Oct. 15 around 12:35 a.m. at 10th and Susquehanna streets.

Police say the victim, a former Temple football player who's now a team assistant, was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

They tried to force him into his car, and when he refused, the suspects allegedly forced him to the ground, took his keys and cell phone. They then fled in the victim's vehicle described as a 2005 Cadillac CTS with New Jersey license plate D80-EBK.

Three hours later, police say the suspects were seen on the 1800 block of 15th Street where they robbed a 24-year-old Temple student.

Police say the armed suspect pointed the handgun at the victim while going through his pants pockets taking the victim's cell phone, keys and wallet containing a driver's license and two Citizens Bank debit cards.

The suspects were seen on video getting into a car and driving off with Sherill's girlfriend at the wheel. She is not facing charges.

There were no shots fired and no injuries were reported.

Sherrill has a long criminal record and just recently got out of jail after serving time for robbery and gun violations.

He was taken into custody at his home on the 2400 block of North Clarion Street.
