One person has died and another was injured in a crash involving an overturned tractor trailer on the Atlantic City Expressway.

HAMMONTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- One person has died and another was injured in a crash involving an overturned tractor trailer on the Atlantic City Expressway.

It happened at 5 a.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes near milepost 26 in Hammonton, New Jersey.

Police say the driver of the tractor trailer lost control, and the vehicle went off the roadway and crashed.

Images from the Action Cam at the scene showed an overturned tractor trailer with significant damage blocking the left westbound lane.

State police are investigating a deadly crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer.

The left eastbound lane was also blocked as police and rescue personnel responded to the scene.

New Jersey State Police say thereafter the male driver of a second vehicle struck the trailer that was still laying in the lanes of travel.

He was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

State police say the driver in the trailer was killed. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The crash caused a fuel spill. Road crews were working to clean up the spill as police continued their investigation.

New Jersey State Police say all lanes were scheduled to reopen at 4 p.m.
