SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA -- A multi-vehicle accident left a 4-year-old girl critically injured in Southwest Philadelphia.

The accident happened around 7:33 a.m. Wednesday on the 5200 block of Grays Avenue.

Police say a truck, operated by a 57-year-old male driver, exited a parking lot to enter the road.

A 32-year-old female, operating an SUV, told police she observed the truck pull halfway across Grays Avenue and then stop. She continued at her current rate of speed.

She says the truck then abruptly started moving forward again, striking the side of her vehicle, which contained four children.

The impact pushed the SUV into three unoccupied parked vehicles.

Three passengers of the SUV, a 4-year-old boy, 8-year-old boy and 11-year-old boy, were hospitalized and are listed in stable condition.

A 4-year-old girl, who police say was not in a car seat or wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition with head injuries.

The driver of the truck tells police he was under the impression the SUV was 'very far away' when he pulled into traffic.

The investigation is ongoing.
