Schuylkill Expressway reopens after crash at South Street

UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- A dump truck crashed and overturned, jamming traffic on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway in University City Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12 p.m. on I-76 East approaching the University Avenue exit.

Video from Chopper 6 HD near the scene showed the truck lying on its side across the right lane and shoulder of the 2-lane highway.

The truck was hauling gravel, and most of that load spilled onto the highway.

All eastbound lanes were blocked as emergency responders arrived on the scene.

An overturned dump truck has traffic jammed on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway in University City.

Action News is told the 33-year-old driver was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with stable vital signs.

So far, no word on what led to the crash.
