Today's Tip: Finding cheaper airfares
Shopping around for the cheapest airfare is always recommended. But did you know that having specific dates will help you find even better deals?

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- We're six weeks away from the unofficial start of the summer season, and it's time to make those vacation plans.

Shopping around for the cheapest airfare is always recommended. But did you know that having specific dates will help you find even better deals?

A new survey published by USA Today says if you are planning on vacationing in the U.S. this summer, depart on or before May 20th and June 14th to get the best deals between airfare price spikes.

If you can delay your vacation until after August 30th, you will see a drop from peak-season prices.

Today's Tip: Nydia Han reports on your rights as an airline passenger.

If you are planning a European vacation, make sure May 11th is your cut-off date for departure to get the best deal.

For later vacations, book after August 21st to avoid summer fares and summer crowds.

Anytime you're planning a vacation and want to save money, remember these three things:

Fly cheap days. For domestic flights, that's Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. For international- midweek dates are best.

Fly connecting flights - one or more stops - especially if you're traveling overseas. This may be less convenient but it could save you big bucks.

Finally, fly cheaper destinations like Boston, Dallas, Denver and Seattle. There are also a lot of deals to and from big, international cities like London, Paris and Beijing.
