What's the Deal: July 4th travel deals
What's the Deal: July 4th travel deals - Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30 p.m. on June 28, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Millions of people are getting ready to travel for the upcoming 4th of July weekend and AAA calls it a record number.

If you've been procrastinating and you're scrambling to make a plan, listen up.

Kayak.com ran the numbers and the cheapest day to fly is on Friday, June 30th. The cheapest day to return is the following Friday, July 7th.

If you can get a week off and choose that combo, they say average flights to various US destinations right now are around $200.

If you decide to drive, the good news is that gas prices are on the low side.

The national average price for gas is 4 cents less than this time last year.

If you're renting a car, there's a website called Autoslash that will will actually re-book your reservation over and over until it scores you the best price.

You set the dates and parameters, and it does the price hunting by monitoring for new discounts or better deals and then secures you the lowest price on your car rental.

If you're staying in a hotel, here's a little tip from the pros. Never accept the first offer.

Besides scanning the web for deals and codes and offers, call and get an actual person on the line.

Not the 800 number, but the front desk of where you want to stay.

Ask for a manager -- and ask nicely: What's the best you can do? It never hurts to try!
