What's the Deal: Summer travel tips. Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4 p.m. on May 30, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- No matter where your summer travels take you, there's a way to save. Before you pack up the family and head out - take notes.

Real simple magazine rounded up some great tips depending on where you're going.

First, a road trip. They say choose lodging that doubles as a destination. Hotels with great pools or on-site water parks work double duty.

Also, limit pit stops by packing lunches and snacks, and always check with the local chamber of commerce for deals.

If you're considering Europe, booking in advance pays off here. If you get within a 21 day window, fares can jump up to 50 percent.

And here's a little nugget - book on Sunday! Fares from the US to Europe tend to be 16 percent cheaper when booked on this day. Also, foreign airlines tend to offer better deals.

If you're thinking about a trip to Disney World, there are ways to keep your wallet happy in the "Happiest Place on Earth."

First, consider renting a home in nearby neighborhoods, this way you can cook some meals there, and save big on the accommodations.

If you do stay on site, skip the rental car. Disney hotels offer free transportation for hotel guests to the parks and to and from the airport.
