FAIRPLAY, CO. (WPVI) -- Three hikers took it upon themselves to come to the rescue of a dog they found trapped in an abandoned mine shaft near Fairplay, Colorado.

Video shared to Facebook by Portia Scovern shows the hikers rescuing the dog and taking it home to be cared for.

Scovern writes that the dog was underweight and dehydrated when it was found. She also writes that her boyfriend had been hiking a week before the rescue when he heard sounds coming from the cave, thinking it was a wild animal he did not go to investigate.

Luckily, thanks to the help of Facebook the dog's owner was found following the rescue.
