Smart doorbell helps California family escape burning home

CORONA, Calif. (WPVI) -- A California family says they escaped their burning home thanks to a smart doorbell.

Mike Hernandez, his fiancee, and his brother were sound asleep when a fire broke out next to their driveway.

Thankfully, their high-tech security system features a doorbell with a motion detector that was triggered by the fire.

Hernandez was awakened by the alerts on his phone and he ran to the front door with a fire extinguisher.

However he quickly realized there was nothing he could do to stop the blaze, so he alerted his family to get out.

Everyone was able to escape unharmed.
