AccuWeather Alert: Severe storms Thursday afternoon, evening

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- After a quiet weather day our attention is shifting to severe thunderstorms that are expected to develop Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. Before the storms arrive a warm front will lift through the area. This could provide some spotty showers and maybe even a thunderstorm Thursday morning. We'll start Thursday off with temperatures in the low 70s.

THURSDAY: Following the passage of a warm front it will be more humid. The big factor in the severe weather later in the day will be how much clearing happens behind the morning showers. At this point we expect that clouds will break for some sunshine in the afternoon. This would destabilize the atmosphere allowing for severe thunderstorms to erupt. The key time for thunderstorms looks to be 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. The greatest threat will be storms that are capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Storms can also produce heavy downpours given the high humidity levels. There is a risk for an isolated tornado, so if you can't tune into 6ABC make sure you have a way of getting weather alerts. As far as temperatures are concerned, Thursday is a cooler day with a high of 81.

FRIDAY: Behind the cold front it is partly to mostly sunny and breezy with lowering humidity, high 86.

SATURDAY: A beautiful start to the weekend! It's sunny and nice with low humidity, high 81.

SUNDAY: More clouds than sunshine. It will feel more humid with the threat for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, high 82.

MONDAY: A nice day with partly sunny skies, high 83.

TUESDAY: Clouds mix with sun with a light breeze, high 82.

WEDNESDAY: Intervals of clouds and sun with a thunderstorm possible, high 85.
