Snow falls throughout the well prepared tri-state area
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- The snow is here and people in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware are ready for the first significant snowfall of the season.
At the South Jersey Transportation Authority workers were busy on Friday inspecting vehicles and out brining the major highways, including the Atlantic City Expressway.
"We've been looking at the forecast since Wednesday. We are currently brining the entire expressway and Route 42 today and we have crews coming in for salt standby crews tonight," said Greg Brandley of the SJTA.
In Atlantic County, workers were also getting ready to treat some 450 miles of roads to cover. 70 employees, including drivers and mechanics, will be on duty.
In Ocean City, officials said public works crews are ready.
"They'll be starting in the wee hours this morning and continuing through Saturday," "Hopefully we'll be able to clear the streets and it will be a minor event and everyone will be downtown shopping and enjoying the Christmas season."
Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, PennDOT said it was also ready.
It's not expected to be a major storm, and the snow is expected to melt on the roads following this warm fall.
Still, PennDOT said, the duration of the storm means the roads can cool off and snow can start to pile up. If that happens, PennDOT said it will switch from a salting to a plowing operation.
"Right now we are prepared to deploy 250 trucks. That's our game plan going into this. We'll continue to monitor forecast throughout the night and if things change for the worse we have the ability to bring in another 182 trucks after that," said John Krafczyk of PennDOT.
