Man shot in the head behind West Oak Lane apartment

WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating an early morning murder in the city's West Oak Lane section.

It happened around 7:05 a.m. Tuesday in the back parking lot of the Mount West Apartments in the 1400 block of 71st Avenue.

Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Mel Williams explains, "We have a victim who was shot in the face. Unknown white male, as of this time he's a John Doe."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide detectives think the victim may have been there since midnight.

Police found no identification or wallet on the victim.

The medical examiner will fingerprint the victim.

Authorities are also reviewing surveillance video from the area.
