Teen stabbed near West Philadelphia High School has died

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The 14-year-old boy who was stabbed in West Philadelphia on Friday has died.

The teen died at 8:55 p.m. after being rushed to Children's Hospital.

The stabbing happened just before 3:30 p.m. around 46th and Market streets near West Philadelphia High School.

Police say the stabbing may have stemmed from an incident earlier in the day, when the victim and the 16-year-old suspect got into a fight in the school lunchroom.

The 16-year-old suspect has been arrested and faces a homicide charge in addition to charges of aggravated and simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and reckless endangerment of another person.

Investigators also say they have recovered the weapon used and bloody clothing.

A search warrant was being served on then teen suspect's home Friday night.
