WHITEMARSH TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- A Montgomery County teenager is hospitalized after sustaining a stab wound to her leg, and now police are investigating what led up to the incident.

It was around 2 p.m. Thursday when police were called out for the report of a stabbing on the 100 block of Chinaberry Drive in Whitemarsh Township.

A 15-year-old girl had called 911, telling the operator that she had been stabbed by a man in the house.

The girl said she then fled into the basement.

Responding officers found no sign of forced entry and no unsecured doors into or out of the residence.

Officers outside the home directed the girl to unlock the front door so they could enter and render first aid.

The girl had a small kitchen knife impaled into her right leg just below the knee. She was transported to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

Police have checked the home and the neighborhood, but say at this time their findings are "inconsistent" with the account given by the teenager.

Investigators are currently speaking with the girl at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
