WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A woman is dead after being struck on a busy highway in Washington Township, New Jersey.

It happened at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of the East Black Horse Pike near Ganttown Road.

The woman was crossing the road with a friend when, that friend told Action News, she was struck by a truck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses say the driver did stop.

Police remained on the scene for hours investigating.

The northbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike were shut down until about 6 a.m.

As of early Tuesday morning, no charges had been filed.
