BEN FRANKLIN PARKWAY (WPVI) -- Action News will bring you coverage of the papal visit this weekend from our special Parkway Studio high above the Ben Franklin Parkway.

We were there preparations for the events continued Friday, just hours before Pope Francis arrives in Philadelphia.

The most strict security measures yet are now in place for Philadelphia residents and visitors as more barriers and fencing went up in Center City overnight.

The security perimeters are in effect from the Parkway to City Hall, east to 12th Street, and cars are now off-limits within designated areas.

People who want to cross into the secure zone must pass through checkpoints and metal detectors.

There was not a lot of vehicle traffic in Center City on Friday morning, but many people had to go through security before they could get to work.

People we talked to had mixed feelings about it all.

"All around looking for a way to get to work, and if I don't get to work I'm looking at getting fired," said Quyeem Joyner of North Philadelphia. "It's taking me 20 minutes to get through every checkpoint."

"It's not that bad, it's just navigating through a more indirect route. Everyone seems to be pretty easy to deal with," said Gaeton Bascardi

On Friday morning Mayor Michael Nutter was out and encouraged people to look at maps before they come down.

He also said there are plenty of police officers and volunteers who can help you figure out how to get around.
