6abc is paying tribute to our late colleague and friend, W. Carter Merbreier. You know him as Captain Noah.



He passed away last week, and a funeral for the man who educated and entertained children for decades was held on Monday.



The service was held at Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ardmore.



"Captain Noah and his Magical Ark" aired on 6abc from the 1960s to 1994. The show was syndicated in 22 cities.



Merbrier was 90 years old.

The 1967 pilot episode of "Captain Noah" started as a religious program starring Carter Merbreier and his wife Patricia Merbreier as Captain and Mrs. Noah. This features the first version of the puppets Wally the Walrus and Maurice the Mouse as well as the original set.




An early version of the newly named "Captain Noah and his Magical Ark" aired in June 1971 this features Captain Noah's set with the slide.



This episode of "Captain Noah and his Magical Ark" aired in September 1977 and featured his grandchildren Abbi and Ashley, plus a visit from the Philadelphia Zoo.
