Bobbi Kristina Brown's family holds public vigil

ATLANTA, Ga. -- While the only daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston is still fighting for her life, her family is asking the public for prayers.

The "Shining a Light for Healing" public vigil was held Feb. 9 at the Amphitheater at Riverdale Town Center in Riverdale, Georgia.

The vigil included gospel songs, prayers, scripture, and a call for healing, ABC News reports.

"It ain't over til God says it's over," Gwen Battle said to the several hundred supporters gathered there.

Tuesday, Bobby Brown's attorney issued a statement on behalf of R&B singer, thanking people for their support and criticizing media outlets for what he called "false reports" about Bobbi Kristina's condition.

"We support the candlelight vigil for Bobbi Kristina. The Brown family is amazed by the love and support from all that attended," Christopher Brown said. "However the false reports that continue to appear in print and on the internet are egregious, false and will be dealt with at an appropriate time. In particular, the false reporting of TMZ, The National Enquirer, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Daily Mail (UK) citing, police sources, family sources and Bobby Brown himself, will receive my attention. The desire to be "first" has clouded the judgment of many reporters as they forgo accuracy. This is a criminal investigation and the integrity of that process requires silence."

Bobbi Kristina has been a patient at the top-ranked neurointensive care unit at Emory University Hospital since Feb. 2, where she remains on life support.

Bobbi Kristina, 21, was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub on Saturday, Jan. 31, at her Roswell townhouse she shared with partner Nick Gordon. Gordon and a family friend discovered her after she had appeared to have gone without oxygen for five to eight minutes, reported ABC affiliate WSB-TV.

Despite reports, the family denied that Bobbi Kristina was pronounced brain-dead or that they were gathering for their final farewells. On Feb. 2, the Houston family released a statement saying that "Bobbi Kristina is fighting for her life and is surrounded by immediate family."

Bobbi Kristina's mother, music legend Whitney Houston, died under tragically similar circumstances when she was found dead in a bathtub almost exactly three years earlier. According to the official coroner's report, Houston had died of an accidental drowning with heart disease and cocaine as contributing factors.
