MT. LAUREL, N.J. (WPVI) -- A gym in New Jersey is offering a workout class to help teenagers stay in shape over the summer.
Many teens are boosting their cardio endurance and strength during the Teen TRX class at Elite Cycle and Fitness in Mt. Laurel.
For 16-year-old Tyler Pohl who runs track, he says the circuit program will help with his speed and agility.
"I think I'll be in better shape than I was coming into the school year that just ended," said Pohl.
And with more kids focusing on just one sport, trainer Denise Malinosky says the class helps mix things up which can help prevent injury.
"We vary the workout every single time so they're not going to get the same workout so that will prevent too much stress on one particular body part," said Malinosky.
She also says the class incorporates body weight for strength training, which is preferred over weights for kids.
Co-owner Melissa Martinez, who was a police officer for 20 years, says it's also just a way to get kids moving more during the summer, which Janna Sawyer admits doesn't always happen.
"Because you have the freedom to do whatever you want and usually choose to lay around," said Sawyer.
There's no laying around here. Teen TRX runs 30 minutes, 2 times a week.
"It's really intense but after the workout, you feel really good about yourself," said Julia Malinosky of Luumberton, New Jersey.
For all kids, Denise and Melissa say try to get them out of house and off the computer and video games as much as possible during the summer.
The Teen TRX class is held in July and August. They also offer adult classes.
