Philadelphia police officers assaulted outside Bustleton bar

BUSTLETON (WPVI) -- Three Philadelphia police officers were assaulted while trying to break up an early morning fight outside a Bustleton bar.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday outside the Good Life Bar on the 9800 block of Bustleton Avenue.

Security guards at the bar called police after a large fight broke out. While on the phone with 911, they heard four to five gunshots.

The guards came outside and saw several people running from the parking lot area.

No gunshot victim was located, however, 11 shell casings were recovered at the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered 50 to 75 people still outside the bar with approximately 25 of them fighting.

A police sergeant attempted to break up a fight between two males.

One of the males refused to listen to police and began yelling at the officers, "Shoot me."

A police lieutenant attempted to calm him down when authorities say the suspect came at the officers in a fighting stance.

The lieutenant sprayed the suspect with his pepper spray.

A female suspect, the male's girlfriend, jumped between the lieutenant and the male suspect.

She was grabbed by a police officer.

She then punched the officer in the left side of the head and punched the sergeant and lieutenant in the back.

The female then fled in the parking lot, but was apprehended by police a short distance away.

A second male suspect refused to disperse from the crowd. He ran from police, but was later apprehended.

The two male suspects were arrested for riot and disorderly conduct.

The female suspect was arrested for assault on all three officers.

The officers are said to be OK.
