A jury has found the son of Allentown's police chief not guilty.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- An eastern Pennsylvania jury has cleared a police chief's son of charges that he pointed a gun at two undercover county detectives.

Christopher Fitzgerald was found not guilty Monday night of simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors had argued that the 23-year-old son of Allentown Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald, pulled a gun on detectives following a road-rage incident.

But defense attorney Jack McMahon said he showed the gun to detectives because he feared for his girlfriend and 1-year-old son in the car.

Fitzgerald said Monday night that "God is good." He was working as a corrections officer at the time of his arrest and was fired after the charges were filed. He says he'll try to get his job back.

Prosecutors didn't comment after the verdict was read.
