BURLINGTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- The swimmer who drowned in the Delaware River near Burlington, New Jersey over the weekend has been identified.
He is Thomas Scott, 24, of Edgewater Park.
Police were called to the scene around 7:14 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators say Scott and two friends were trying to swim from the mainland to Burlington Island.
Witnesses told investigators that when he was about halfway to the island, Scott started having trouble staying afloat and went under the water.
Local boaters tried to rescue him, police say, but were unsuccessful.
Scott's body was recovered around 8:45 p.m.
Police say the incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning.
Investigators also note that Scott was the father of two young children.
