Boil water advisory lifted in Camden after main break
CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A boil water advisory has been lifted in Camden for people west of the Cooper River.
Repairs to the ruptured main were completed Friday. Samples have been taken for testing.
The advisory was the result of a water main break that happened between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday in the area of River and Delair roads in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Officials tell us an underground, 36-inch transmission main broke, impacting 40,000 residents in Camden.
That caused concern contamination could have gotten into the pipe so a boil water advisory was issued.
"My wife was talking about it yesterday that I was going to boil the water, but I forgot all about it. I got up this morning, I made the coffee. Oh boy. I hope I don't get sick," said Cesario Martiez.
"We normally go through cases of water cause we are water drinkers here, like at least two cases, for the safety of my children and grandchildren. We've always been cautious," said Denise Austin.
The following measures are strongly encouraged at this time:
- Run your water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with water from the service main.
- Empty and clean your automatic ice makers and water chillers.
- Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Service connections with a water softener/cartridge filters should be run through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.
- Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled (as applicable).
