NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A 7-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

It happened just before 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Oakwood Street.

Witnesses tell Action News the boy was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a car, which did not stop.

"As soon as he drove past him, and he just pulled over to the side of the street, didn't stop or anything, slammed his car in reverse," said witness Samantha Reider. "I'm surprised he didn't run the kid over trying to get away, and went right down the alley, just flew away."

Susan Juliana says she and her family were inside when they heard a loud crash.

"So we ran out front, and here it was a child on a bicycle that was hit by a runaway car," said resident Juliana.

Surveillance camera's captured the hit-and-run accident. Incredibly, seconds after the collision, the driver can be seen backing up and speeding off into an alley.

Resident Samantha Rieder said, "He just pulled over to the side of the street didn't stop or anything. Slammed his car in reverse, surprised he didn't run the kid over, trying to get away. And went right down the alley, and just flew away."

Police located the striking vehicle, a gold-colored Toyota Camry, a few blocks from the scene. But the driver is still on the loose.

Meanwhile, Juliana's instincts were to look after the child until paramedics could arrive.

"My motherly instincts kicked in, and I ran right out and I held his hand, and I was telling him to stay still cause he was bleeding from the back of the head," said Juliana. "... And I was just like lay still, don't move, be calm, and he's like, "I want mommy.' "

His mother did come to the scene, and he was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital in stable condition.

The 7-year-old is a kindergartner at Marshal Street Elementary school.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the driver is being asked to contact Norristown police at 610-270-5810 or our tip line at 610-278-TIPS.
