Chester police officer accused of exposing himself to female detainees

MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- A Chester police officer is accused of exposing himself to women in custody. He's now facing charges, as fellow officers look for more possible victims.

Investigators say Chester Police Officer Roosevelt Turner preyed on female detainees, coercing three women to show their private parts and exposing himself to one victim.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan says, "He would manipulate to an area where there wasn't a camera and then have the woman expose themselves to him."

Whelan says the crimes began in April. Then in August a victim came forward just hours after Turner allegedly exposed himself and pulled out a condom.

Whelan claims Turner even kept in communication with the alleged victims after they had been released.

"We were able to document through social media that he had indicated to this victim, 'thank you for an enjoyable time,'" Whelan said.

Turner has been suspended from the force pending the judicial process.

One Chester police officer, who doesn't want to be named, questioned why Turner was allowed to have contact with female detainees after the allegations surfaced.

Whelan says, "At times we deal with credibility issues, as well as dealing with motivation to fabricate. So, we take it very seriously, but also take it very cautiously."

Chester Police Commissioner Darren Alston tells us, "He was a good officer. From everything I've seen, he was a good officer."

The district attorney doesn't know if there are more victims, but says if there are they need to come forward. The police commissioner says two officers are supposed to be supervising detainees at all times, but he doesn't know what happened in these cases.
