Clubs put final touches on costumes for 2016 Mummers Parade

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- On New Year's Eve, clubs featured in the 2016 New Year's Day Mummers Parade were putting the final touches on costumes for the big show.

"I remember my father saying at an early age, always remember him saying if you think you're done than your going to lose," said Scott McIntyre of the Shooting Stars.

The 2014 Fancy Brigade Champions tell Action News they want their title back.

The hustle and bustle was in full effect Thursday night in their 2 Street clubhouse.

"Fans can expect a spectacular show; we're going all out this year," said McIntyre. "We have all the dark-sided Disney characters, and a heck of a finale with Maleficent at the end."

A few doors down, Quaker City members were busy with glue guns. The club used more than 300 pounds of it to create elaborate costumes.

"I'm exhausted. We've been going nonstop for the last four months," said Sam Regalbuto of Quaker City.

The group won a title in the String Bands Division in 2014 also - for both clubs, the nerves are mounting.

"If you ain't nervous, there's something wrong. If you don't have butterflies in your stomach, there's something wrong," said Jeff Osborne of the Shooting Stars.

Outside it was the calm before the storm.

Window wells boarded up, the fencing ready to be put in place. All part of an experience woven into the Philadelphia fabric and, for these members, a second family.

"Some people say it's only a hobby, but for me its a lifestyle," said Regalbuto.
