A father whose 2-year-old son was wounded in a shooting in north Philadelphia on Thanksgiving Day has pleaded guilty to child endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Omar Laboy-Vega, 35, was immediately sentenced Tuesday to five to 10 years in state prison.
Authorities said the boy was shot in the chest and finger while he and his 4-year-old cousin were playing with a gun Nov. 24. Prosecutors said the younger boy spent several weeks in a hospital and has been doing well.
The toddler's mother, 34-year-old Rachel Santiago, pleaded guilty last month to child endangerment and was sentenced to six to 12 months in jail.
