Classic cars destroyed in East Coventry Twp. garage fire

EAST COVENTRY Twp., Pa. (WPVI) -- The owner of an auto body business in Chester County is coming to terms with the loss of both his garage, and his prized possessions.

At least eight classic cars were destroyed by an overnight fire at his shop in East Coventry Township.

The blaze broke out around 3:30 a.m. at Hansberry Enterprises located on the 2400 block of New Schuylkill Road.

Owner Tim Hansberry toured the scene, pointing out the wreckage of both '64 and '65 Falcons.

Also destroyed was a bright orange 1970 Plymouth Barracuda.

"That was one my personal toys that I had here. That was one of my personal ones," Hansberry said.

Surveillance cameras captured the intense blaze that destroyed the 6,000 square foot building.

Staffers spent the day extinguishing hot spots and searching for keys belonging to cars parked outside the building.

"They were in a key box and, unfortunately, the key box melted," said manager Bill Cahoe.

Flames only destroyed one of three buildings, so mechanics continued to work on other cars Thursday. In addition to repairing muscle cars, they also sell newer vehicles.

Hansberry could not put a price tag on the loss of the building and the eight or nine cars inside, but said he will rebuild.

"This is a setback we'll get past. Other than that, very thankful and blessed that nobody got hurt," Hansberry said.

Investigators say there was nothing suspicious about the fire appears to be an accident. However, the fire burned so hot, they may never be able to pinpoint the cause of the blaze.
