Man walking dog shot to death in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a man was shot to death while walking his dog.

The incident happened around 7:25 p.m. Monday on the 300 block of Horton Street in West Philadelphia.

It's not clear if the victim was targeted, but investigators say he was shot once in the head.

"When neighbors saw him lying on the sidewalk, he was still holding the leash in his hands and the dog was attached; so although he was unconscious and lying on the sidewalk, he was still holding onto his dog leash," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

So far police have not identified a suspect and the motive remains a mystery.
