SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A driver has been charged after a car struck three family members after a crash in South Philadelphia, leaving the mother dead.
George McGoldrick, 34, from the 100 block of Fitzgerald Street, has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Homicide by Vehicle, DUI and related offenses.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday at 21st and Jackson streets.
Witnesses told police a white, four-door Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Jackson Street when the driver ran the stop sign and struck a green minivan.
Upon impact, the car jumped the curb at the southeast corner of 21st and Jackson, and struck a family of three, including a 45-year-old man, 40-year-old woman and 2-year-old boy.
All three victims were taken to Jefferson University Hospital.
The woman was pronounced dead from massive head trauma. The man and child were treated for minor injuries.
Police say McGoldrick abandoned the vehicle and ran home. Once there, he told a family member he had been in an accident and, according to investigators, a family member called 911.
Officers arrived and placed McGoldrick into custody without incident.
Four people in the minivan were treated for minor injuries.
