MANTOLOKING, N.J. -- Authorities say a Jersey shore fire department chief suffered a heart attack at the scene of a house fire.
Mantoloking police say Larry Gilman remained hospitalized Sunday in intensive care. But further details on his condition were not disclosed.
Gilman was among numerous firefighters who responded to the blaze at a vacant summer home in the Ocean County community. It wasn't clear if he was helping to fight the fire when he was stricken.
The blaze was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday and was brought under control later in the evening.
No residents were hurt in the blaze. But a firefighter from neighboring Bay Head was treated at a hospital for an undisclosed injury and was released later Saturday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
