Philly police probe road rage complaint against possible cop

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say they're conducting an internal investigation into a road rage incident in which a man claiming to be an officer allegedly cursed at another driver then used a racial slur.

The incident played out Tuesday afternoon in heavy, slow traffic as it moved from the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway to the Twin Bridges toward the Boulevard.

The complainant says the driver of a dark pick-up truck cut him off several times.

He then told police it went downhill from there, claiming the pickup driver, "uttered some racial slur."

"The allegation is the individual pointed a gun out the window, and made a claim," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

The allegation the pick-up driver claimed he was a police officer.

"So we are investigating. Internal Affairs has it. I believe they have the video in question," said Ross.

There are images of the truck that shows a FOP license and distinctive markings. Investigators believe that vehicle indeed belongs to a police officer.

"We believe it did, and we have reason to believe that we know who that police officer may be. What actually transpired, you know, we got to find out from the investigation. But we do believe we have identified who the potential officer is," said Ross.
