WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Police have identified the woman who was found shot in the chest on the street in Wilmington, Delaware Sunday night.
43-year-old Crystal Brown was gunned down a block from her home.
Police say at just before 10:00 p.m. Sunday night, she walked to the Adams Market at 7th and Adams streets.
As she left the store, she stepped into a fight.
A crowd of people had gathered near the store and tempers flared.
At least one of them pulled a gun and started shooting.
A stray bullet hit Brown in the chest.
"There may be two people who are angry at each other, shooting at each other, but they're not the only two people involved. There are innocent bystanders. Anytime you choose to fire a gun, that bullet can end up anywhere. In this case it ended up in an innocent person," Wilmington Police Cpl. Mark Ivey said.
Responding officers performed CPR on Brown before medics arrived.
Brown was rushed to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, but later died from her injuries.
Brown's family and friends gathered near her home Monday, too stunned to talk about it.
Friends have been pouring out their grief on her Facebook page.
Her profile indicates she worked as a legal aid for a Wilmington law firm.
Last night, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Police went through the neighborhood today, door-to-door, handing out wanted flyers urging residents to speak up if they know anything.
"If you saw something, if you heard something, you know any information, there's no bad lead, we need it. This was an innocent person, an innocent woman, who just went to the storm and she got killed for it," Ivey said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 302-576-3646.
